CHAPTER FIFTEEN
KOGI STATE UNICEF ASSISTED WES PROJECT
The Administration of Alhaji Ibrahim Idris inherited a UNICEF that had only the wreckage of a borehole drilling equipment and a workforce that had no motivation as a result of lack of attention by Government. Quite a number of communities made payment for drilling of boreholes but UNICEF could not render services because the rig had collapsed and the will to execute projects was lacking. On assumption of Office, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris took appropriate measure to enhance UNICEF with a view to ensuring that it discharges its statutory obligation. The rig was refurbished and the staff that were owed several months of unpaid allowances were settled. UNICEF was charged with the responsibility of the technical aspect of providing water to towns and villages in the Western Senatorial District of Kogi State and it is a dream realized for the Government and people of Kogi State as UNICEF has carried out its responsibility of drilling and reticulation of borehole in several towns and villages in the Western Senatorial District of Kogi State.
