COUNTERPART FUNDING

 

Conscious of the fact that the statutory allocation from the Federal Government which is the main source of revenue for the State is insufficient, His Excellency Alhaji Ibrahim Idris has effected payment of counterpart funds in several sectors of the economy to facilitate access by the State Government to donor agencies.

 

His Excellency established the Agricultural Trust Fund and paid a counterpart fund of  N180 million which entitled the farmers in the State to access a loan of  N720 million. 

 

The State Government under the leadership of Alhaji Ibrahim Idris paid counterpart funds in respect of the Kogi State Poverty Reduction Agency.  To this end, the State Government consistently paid the yearly counterpart fund of N6 million from 2002 – 2004 and N8.4 million in 2005.  This payments have facilitated the execution of several projects in all Local Government Areas of Kogi State by the Agency.

Government has similarly paid its counterpart fund in the I.F.A.D. World Bank Loan Scheme for roots and tuber crops amounting to N20 million and also the N60 million for ECOWAS loan scheme for fishermen, and N20 million for Agricultural Development Projects (ADP).

 

In the Health Sector, the State Government made counterpart payments in the following areas:-

To enable the people of the State benefit from the Micro Finance Scheme Programme, the State Government in collaboration with Oceanic Bank and NAPEP pooled a sum of N50 million to enable beneficiaries access N200 million for small and medium scale enterprises.

 

The State Government disbursed the sum of N7.68 million to NEPAD to enable it purchase assorted equipments like Computers, Scanners printers generating set  for her training under the NEPAD ETF e- Schools Programmes.  So far 80 schools have been effectively covered under the programme.

 

The total sum of N23,678,250.00 has also been paid to UNDP representing her counterpart fund for years 2003, 2004 and 2005.  These payments ignited the full implementation of the projects of UNDP.   As at the end of 2004 a total sum of N20 million has been paid in respect of National Fadama Porgramme.

 

As at today the State Government has fully paid all its counterpart funds to facilitate speedy execution of projects by donor agencies.
