The current Legislature in the Kogi State House of Assembly was formally inaugurated on 2nd June 2003, by His Excellency, Alhaji Ibrahim Idirs.
Since inauguration to date, the House of Assembly as the first arm of the Government has continued to enjoy tremendous mutual cooperation and support from the Executive arm under the leadership of Alhaji Ibrahim Idris.
Precisely in July 2003, the Executive Governor of the State magnanimously released the sum of N20 millions to the leadership of the House to carry out complete renovation of the Assembly Complex which he met in a dilapidated condition. Also, fund was made available for the provision of many facilities like Computers, electronic gadgets, refrigerators and television sets to facilitate the discharge of the constitutional responsibilities of law making.
In addition to the take off-grant the State Government has always ensured the prompt payment of the salaries and allowances of Honourable Members and Staff of the Assembly. Monthly running cost is granted promptly by the State Government and this has no doubt contributed immensely to the various achievement recorded by the House within the period (2003-206). At present a total of 21 Bills have been passed into law by the House and a total of 140 Motions/Resolutions were passed within the period. Looking at it from the Legislative point of view, these are no mean achievements. Also the House has assisted the State Government greatly by providing the enabling environment through legislation, which has led to socio-economic development of the entire State.
One major achievement recorded by the House is the construction/rehabilitation of the Hassan Katsina road from Zone 8 junction to the High Court/Assembly junction. In fact the feeder road leading to the Assembly Complex has been tarred through the magnanimity of the Executive lead by His Excellency Alhaji Ibrahim Idris.
Finally it is pertinent to mention that the relationship between the Assembly, the first arm of Government and the State Government has been very cordial. This in no small measure had contributed to the rapid development strides recorded by this administration. |
